The Ninja Turtle Renaissance Men

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Real Life Artists

The photo to the right contains four pictures of some of most well known painters of all time.  From left to right and top to bottom: Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael.  These four men are icons of the Renaissance Era and each is a Renaissance Man.

But one thing that is unique about this picture from other pictures is the colored stripes across each of their faces.  This is because while most people recognize these four portraits of those of great artists and inventors, my generation grew up believing these four names belonged to four super heroes: the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Now this comic book – turned television show – turned movie – turned video game was a major part of childhood for thousands, probably millions of children growing up in the united states.  This was our first contact with the historical time period of the Renaissance.  Because of this series, we inadvertently learned about four of the major players in the Italian Renaissance, even if it was tongue-in-cheek.

I thought this would be a good picture to share today.  It shows how we are affected even in today’s pop culture by people who lived 400-500 years ago.  I liked this particular picture so much that I actually bought a T-Shirt of it from Woot!, however I’m not sure where to find it now.

I hope this picture brings you some joy.

Until tomorrow,

Turtle Power!
