Renaissance Man Quote of the Week: Leonardo da Vinci

“Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do something else. The trick is the doing something else.”

-Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci wrote volumes upon volumes of journals and notes in his lifetime… much of it written backwards to encode his writings (paranoid much?).  But luckily because of his desire to write things down, we end up with gems like this that would have otherwise gone unrecorded.

What I love most about quotes like this is that it gives us the opportunity to learn directly from those who have come before.  Leonardo da Vinci was the master of originality.  He was always ahead of his times, whether in science, art, or inventing new technologies.  This quote gives us some insight to how he accomplished this.  He always looked to “do something else”.

What’s next?  What’s next for me?  It was obviously very important for da Vinci to plan ahead, but I know that I can overlook the importance of good planning in my own life.  But success like da Vinci’s doesn’t just happen, it’s intentional and planning is a huge part of it.

So,  what’s next for you?
