In our Welcome Post, we talked about becoming a Renaissance Man. This is a goal for my life and something I believe anyone can achieve. But what exactly is a Renaissance Man?
Well the term Renaissance Man comes from the men who lived during the European Renaissance in 14th-17th centuries. These men were famous for their advances in arts, sciences, mathematics, writing, politics, architecture, and just about anything else they could get their hands on. But the most amazing part is how each of them contributed to every one of the categories. Artists were also politicians. Scientists also created amazing sculptures. No one knew that they had to be locked in a single craft for their entire lives, but lived uninhibited by culture’s norms.
Another term for this is polymath. This comes from the greek literally meaning “having learned much”. And this is our goal here, at the Manaissance. We want to learn and grow together. We want to be Renaissance Men.
The goal is never to be satisfied with only mastering and contributing to one category, but to always desire to learn everything. You may be naturally gifted at math and sciences, but why not also strive to understand carpentry? You only live once and pigeonholing yourself as just an [insert profession here] means you will miss out on so much that life has to offer.
So, this week we are going to be talking about 5 things that make a Renaissance Man. These are the focus of the blog… the pillars of the renaissance man. Check back daily as we reveal the Pillars throughout the week!
Pillar 1: Hunger for Knowledge
Pillar 2: Mastery of Skills
Pillar 3: Willingness to Fail
Pillar 4: Love of Life
Pillar 5: Unwavering Resolve
